Managing acid reflux symptoms can be an overwhelming task. It can sometimes feel like nothing you do helps to relieve the painful burning in your chest and throat.By now, most of us are aware of the causes of heartburn, but did you know that there are a few ways to get heartburn relief  immediately?

Here are the top five home remedies for heartburn:

1. Stand Up Nice and Tall – The trick here is to use gravity to your advantage. I know that sometimes all you want to do is to crawl into bed and call it a day. Unfortunately, this will only aggravate your symptoms.

2. Avoid Bending Over – In addition to standing up, it is crucial that you do not bend over for any reason. At the risk of overstating the obvious, you should NEVER lie down when you are experiencing heartburn symptoms.

3. Drink a Large Glass of Milk – If you can, drink a glass of whole milk when you feel the burning sensation begin. The ingredients in whole milk will help reduce the acid in your stomach.

4. Chew Some Gum – Chewing on a piece of sugar-free gum works extremely well as a remedy for heartburn. Anything that helps your mouth create saliva is a good thing at this point!

5. Eat an Apple – Similar to the effects of drinking a glass of milk, eating an apple will help reduce the amount of acid in your stomach. Some people prefer to dilute one tablespoon of apple cider in a large glass of water. I prefer to eat an apple.

When you start to experience heartburn symptoms, there are a few things you can do immediately to reduce your pain and suffering. These remedies, unfortunately, only cover up the symptoms. They do nothing to address the underlying causes of heartburn.
